ABC Data
Observational data recording the Antecedent, Behaviour, and Consequence for specific incidents.
ABC data collection is a direct assessment tool where you record what happened immediately before a behaviour (Antecedent), what the behaviour looked like (Behaviour), and what happened immediately after (Consequence).
After gathering multiple ABC data points, you can begin to look for patterns. If the consequence is consistently teacher reprimands, the behaviour likely functions to access attention. This descriptive data proves essential for hypothesizing behavioural function.
