Duration

The total amount of time a behaviour lasts from beginning to end.

Duration measures how long a behaviour lasts. You use it when you care more about the length of a behaviour than how often it happens. This applies to continuous behaviours like tantrums or behaviours that vary heavily in length like on-task reading.

Recording accurate duration requires clear onset and offset criteria. It captures the total footprint a behaviour leaves in a learner's day, offering a different perspective than frequency data.
