Inter-Response Time (IRT)

The amount of time between the end of one instance of a behaviour and the start of the next.

Inter-Response Time (IRT) tracks the pacing of a behaviour. A short IRT means the behaviour happens frequently in tight clusters. A long IRT means the behaviour is spaced out.

IRT forms the mathematical basis for calculating rate, but analyzing it directly helps with specific pacing goals. You might extend the IRT between bites for a rapid eater, or decrease the IRT for a slow worker to increase their overall output.
