Timing Floor

The lowest possible measured rate for a behaviour based on the observation period duration.

On a Standard Celeration Chart, the timing floor represents the length of your observation period. You calculate it as 1 divided by the total minutes observed:

  • A 1-minute observation has a floor of 1
  • A 10-minute observation has a floor of 0.1

The timing floor dictates the sensitivity of your measurement. You cannot plot a behaviour occurring at a rate lower than the timing floor, so you must design data collection periods long enough to capture the behaviour you want to see.
